I have been loved and I have been forgotten. There have been moments where I have felt so deeply, I could have drowned and there have been moments where I chose to feel nothing at all. I have come to learn that the latter is far more dangerous and detrimental to one’s sense of self than the former. I have fallen in love with people that told me that they couldn’t or didn’t love me back. I have run away from loves that could have been good for me out of fear that when they said they would stay they didn’t mean it. This book spans over the course of four years, it’s a collection of my deepest and sometimes darkest desires, fears, experiences, longings, and heartbreaks that made up my early and mid-twenties. It’s a book of balance of trying to see the beauty of the mundane, of lovers, of cities and situationships when on the inside you feel like you’re dying and have nothing to give. But it’s also a story of courage from one ashen burned forest to another. I’ve learned life is hard, love is harder. I’ve learned that there is a delicate and almost impossible balance between self-discovery of yourself and who you are when you’re in love. This book is a small piece of my journey, of all the parts that have stitched me together from the East coast to the West coast and back again.
